- Historical story headline: A family ancestor granted islands by the governor of New France lead
- Historical story: On 17 August 1674, governor Louis de Buade, comte de Frontenac, granted André Jarret, sieur de Beauregard, three islands in the Saint Lawrence near Verchères. Québec’s official place-name commission preserves his name in Île Beauregard, and a judicial archive of 1700 records his descendants. His 1676 Montréal marriage linked the family to Marguerite Anthiaume, whose father served an office attached to the French royal household. He is in the maternal Charlebois/Jarret ancestral line. lead
- Evidence and cautions: Documented seigneurial service and royal-administration ties are not royal blood ancestry. Some genealogists disagree whether André was a Carignan soldier and whether François Jarret, father of historical heroine Madeleine de Verchères, was a brother or cousin; avoid definitive claims about those disputed connections. lead
- Story display priority: 94 lead
- Possible family relation to Madeleine de Verchères: Parks Canada recognizes Madeleine de Verchères as the 14-year-old defender of Fort Verchères in 1692. The François-Jarret-to-André-Jarret relation is disputed in genealogical secondary accounts. Madeleine is NOT added as direct ancestor; a precise collateral cousin/niece relationship is unproven here. lead
